In a series of calculated maneuvers, ZANU PF’s political agenda comes under scrutiny as two contrasting scenarios expose its hypocrisy. The question lingers: How does any discerning individual perceive these actions by the party? Scenario A spotlights ZANU PF orchestrating a grand display of over 200 alleged ghost defections alongside party loyalists, all while flouting COVID-19 regulations. Scenario B sees the party exploiting World Health Organization guidelines as an excuse, contradictorily demonstrated by recent gatherings and events. A profound analysis reveals an intricate web of motives and manipulations.

A discerning observer, politically astute and analytically sound, would undoubtedly detect the underlying hypocrisy driven by fear. This fear has catalyzed ZANU PF’s manipulation of the captured electoral commission to postpone by-elections. This strategic delay stems from an undeniable apprehension regarding the opposition’s potential resurgence, and the subsequent reclamation of vacant parliamentary seats. The looming specter of the 2023 elections serves as a reflection, revealing ZANU PF’s impending defeat due to its staggering failures.

The consequences of election delays are far-reaching, allowing ZANU PF to appoint representatives rather than allowing a democratic electoral process to unfold. This affront to transparency and accountability is a casualty of these delay tactics. The Constitution is at risk of manipulation, a tool for ZANU PF’s long-standing aspiration of establishing a one-party state. Such manipulations, devoid of genuine opposition input, pave the way for erosion of human rights and civil liberties, leaving the opposition and minorities vulnerable to the party’s tyranny.

However, ZANU PF’s presumption that postponing by-elections aids its power retention strategy is misguided. With the ongoing vaccination campaigns aiming for herd immunity, the party’s excuses for delay grow thin. Once this milestone is reached, excuses such as alien threats or funding shortages lose credibility. This delay only amplifies public awareness of ZANU PF’s ineffectiveness, as its handpicked appointees flounder in the face of the nation’s challenges. The electorate’s growing political awareness fuels anticipation for their dismissal in the impending 2023 elections.

Cynics may suggest that these delay tactics pave the way for a similar postponement of the 2023 presidential elections. Yet, many countries worldwide have successfully conducted elections amid the pandemic. By 2023, with herd immunity achieved, ZANU PF’s manipulation of state institutions loses traction. Regardless of delay attempts, elections will transpire, and the party’s losses will be inevitable due to the demonstrated fear driving these postponements.

Beyond foreshadowing the suspension of the 2023 elections, the prolonged by-election delay hints at the possibility of a futile government of national unity, a facade masking ZANU PF’s dominance. However, any arrangement without the active participation of the opposition, even a unity government, is doomed. ZANU PF’s attempts at delay are but a futile struggle against the inevitable tide of change.

The economy won’t miraculously recover under a weak and pliant opposition. The nation won’t heal from perpetual abuses inflicted by ZANU PF. The trajectory towards state failure, a direction firmly set by the party, cannot be reversed through such manipulative tactics. The party’s pursuit of a one-party state as a desperate evasion of responsibility and accountability further solidifies its impending downfall.

ZANU PF’s strategic delay tactics and attempts to cling to power illicitly are destined for failure. Whether through the hypocritical postponement of by-elections or the aspiration for a one-party state, these efforts are counterproductive. The resolute opposition, unyielding in its commitment, remains the sole solution to ZANU PF’s manufactured predicaments. The party’s hypocrisy will ultimately unravel, exposing its desperation and leading to its inevitable downfall.
