There is now a very serious fight inside the ruling ZANU PF party in Zimbabwe. The fight is between President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his deputy, Constantino Chiwenga. The two men want full power. Now things have become more dangerous.
People are saying the fight is not just talk anymore. It is turning violent. Just recently, there was a firebombing. This is when people burn things to scare others. In this case, cars were set on fire. These cars belonged to people who support Mnangagwa. The firebombing is seen as a warning. It shows that the fight inside ZANU PF is now very serious and deadly.
The people who were targeted include big businessmen like Kuda Tagwirei, Wicknell Chivayo, Tino Machakaire, and John Mangudya. All of them are known to be close to Mnangagwa. They are rich and powerful. But now even they are not safe. This shows that the war inside the ruling party is deep.
This whole fight started after the removal of former President Robert Mugabe in November 2017. After Mugabe was pushed out, Mnangagwa became president. But not everyone in the party has been happy. Chiwenga, who helped remove Mugabe, now wants to be in full control. He is not happy with the way Mnangagwa is leading.
Many war veterans are also saying Mnangagwa must go. They say he has failed badly. They say he is leading a corrupt and useless government. One of the war veterans leading this push is Blessed Geza. He and others think Mnangagwa is only helping his friends and family while the country suffers.
Chiwenga has also been speaking in a way that shows he does not support Mnangagwa fully. He talks about corruption and how it is now a danger to Zimbabwe. Many people believe this is his way of saying Mnangagwa is not doing a good job. Chiwenga wants to take over. But he is doing it in a quiet way, not directly attacking.
But the situation is now no longer quiet. The firebombing was not the only warning. There have also been strange break-ins and threats. One shocking event was when armed robbers went to Chivayo’s in-laws and stole a lot of money. Chivayo had paid US$125,000 lobola for his fiancée, and part of that money, US$75,000, was stolen. People say this was not a normal robbery. It was political. A message to Chivayo to stop supporting Mnangagwa.
Chivayo is seen as a face of Mnangagwa’s corruption. He is always in the news showing off money and big projects. But now he and others like him are being targeted. The firebombings and robberies are all signs that the fight is no longer safe for anyone.
What is clear is that this battle for power in ZANU PF is now dangerous. Mnangagwa’s position is not safe. Chiwenga is making moves, and the party is now divided. If this fight continues, Zimbabwe could be in big trouble. The country is already suffering. Prices are high, jobs are few, and people are angry. This fight for power will only make things worse.
